On December 7, 2001, the United States Attorney of Los Angeles, California, recognized <a href="tiki-index.php?page=TIGTA" title="TIGTA" class="wiki wiki_page">TIGTA</a> Special Agent William Schafer for his “distinguished service” and leadership in an identity theft investigation conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Organized Crime Strike Force. The task force was composed of members from various federal and local law enforcement agencies. Special Agent Schafer was the lead agent on the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of 18 individuals and court ordered restitution and fines in excess of $12 million dollars.
